"I..." Mal started talking but had to swallow, his words catching in his throat. "I found this... in the, the, uh, farm we were hiding." The tracker slid a hand inside his jacket as he spoke, his eyes everywhere but on Nikolai. "It, uh, reminded me of you, or, whatever."
He took out his pocket this beautiful, deep red gardenia flower, handing it to Nikolai, lifting his gaze to see the surprised expression on the Prince, just for a second, before lowering it again and turning his back on Nikolai, striding towards his room.
Nikolai was (for once in his lifetime) speechless.
