Dazed and drowsy, Kaveh lets himself be pulled down onto the bed, back flush against Alhaitham’s chest. Caged in his arms, Kaveh feels…safe. He thinks he can get used to this, the domesticity of it all. It wasn’t them. It wasn’t what Alhaitham and Kaveh were, but he decided to be greedy today.

“Huh? What—oh, nothing,”
The scribe’s gaze was enough to let Kaveh know that he wasn’t convinced. So, defeated, he opened his fist and showed everyone the flower petals on his palm. There was a glint of panic and frustration in his expression, then he quickly said—before anyone even asked, “Uhh, surprise! Flowers! Yeah, I was practicing a new magic trick for my next presentation! Ahaha,”
