Despite Sandrone's warning to stay away from the Doctor, Columbina doesn't stop going; it's only once Scaramouche tells her the same thing that she gives it a second thought.
Years go by, the number of Harbingers grows, and Columbina comes to realize the cost of finding a place for herself.

“What if I didn’t want to drink it with sugar?” Lumine says that, and yet still takes a sip from her cup.
Wanderer’s gaze remains on Lumine, and his face distorts as though he’d seen another bug—it reminds Paimon of his more insane days, and that’s why she keeps her mouth shut, despite how eerie he’s being. “But you like sugar,” Wanderer says, mouth twisted, a petulant edge to his voice. “You like sweet. Food, places, people—isn’t it better if they’re sweet?”
Paimon’s jaw drops open. Hot chocolate dribbles out from the corner of her mouth, sliding down her chin. The question feels like a trap. Is most definitely one, in fact, and even Paimon realizes that.
But Lumine, she doesn’t even blink. Instead, she puts down the coffee, smiling. Lumine is always so nonchalant in the face of Wanderer’s volatility. Paimon doesn’t know how she keeps herself so calm. “Sometimes,” Lumine says lightly, “I prefer bitter.”

The story is always the same. Like a tale from under a silverwood tree, like a myth from the days of old, not so much tied by the constraints of the narrative so much as being narrative itself. Antigone must bury her brother. Iphigenia must be put to death. At a thousand turns, in a thousand ways, Orpheus must turn, and he must look, again, and again.

Albedo examined him from below, face as impassive as it always was: when he fought, when he worked, when he painted, when he chatted with someone he did not find particularly interesting. But the exertion had taken its toll on him nonetheless — because Albedo was real, corporeal, with hard elbow bones Kaeya could feel against his palm — and left him panting lightly. Kaeya was hardly starved for combat experience, and in his time he’d seen the face of bloodlust a thousand times, from battle-hungry rookies throwing themselves into death’s arms for the thrill of it, to seasoned professionals who treat killing like a sport. Albedo, beneath the flushed cheeks and the tousled hair, simply looked bored.

There’s an answer on the tip of his tongue, one that he’ll deliver with a cocky grin and a half-laugh and a little shake of his head. But Bucky is exhausted and hungry and so sore it hurts to move, and one of the guys in their platoon fucking died yesterday. His mouth tastes like iodine water and his feet hurt and none of it’s going to get better any time soon, and all at once Bucky misses Steve so badly he can barely see straight.
“Yeah,” Bucky declares abruptly, the word escaping from his mouth before he fully realizes what he’s saying. “Yeah, I do.”
