There’s a pause, a beat of silence, and Katsuki braces for admonishment. He knows he is acting off, unlike himself. Maybe it is the fatigue finally catching up to him, or it was the way Izuku’s hands looked, peeling an orange, that did him in.
Scarred fingers digging into the rind and peeling it off. Filling the air with the tangy aroma of Katsuki’s favourite fruit.
Izuku doesn’t even like oranges.

It’s because Shouto isn’t here to keep him warm without them.
Izuku slips his hand under and traces the new scar on Kacchan’s side, raised and angry.
His fingers inevitably find their way to the middle again. Ground zero. The heart of the problem, where Kacchan’s chest is decorated with a starburst.
“Tch, this wasn’t that, Deku,” Kacchan says, catching on. “M’fine.”
Kacchan likes to call him a self-sacrificing idiot, but then why is it that when it comes down to it, it’s always Kacchan getting hurt for Izuku’s sake?
