A Commander Without an Army

Chapter 53: Epilogue

Summary:

It's not a Metal Gear Solid crossover without a post-credits sting, is it?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Recorded call between Double Trouble and unknown party. Surveillance was unable to recover the other end of the call.

“It’s me, darling. Went off just how you planned it.”

*indistinct response*

“No, she doesn’t suspect a thing. She got what she wanted, didn’t she?”

*indistinct response*

“Yes, the deaths of Shadow Weaver and Hordak were confirmed. No wriggling out of it for either of them.”

*indistinct response*
“Of course, darling. It was the performance of a lifetime: behold, the corpse of the one-time Commander of the Horde! Adora gave a pretty speech too, even though she knew it was all a fake as soon as she tried to heal me.”

*indistinct chatter*

“I may have suggested it as a fallback plan in case the opportunity arose.”

*indistinct chatter*

“No, Catra was never in any danger. I’d made certain some air vents were unlocked. She got out of there with at least a hundred seconds to spare.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Yes, I lifted the data drive off of her when we met up and swapped it out with the copy I’d made that includes your alterations. Your secret’s safe.”

*indistinct chatter.*

“Yes, Catra’s off the board, so to speak. Only the Princesses know she’s still alive, and they’re happy to use her memory as a way to improve relations with the former Horde.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Of course! I’ll make sure they find the control room for the Heart and dimensional shift.”

*indistinct chatter*

“No, Light Hope won’t interfere. She wants to get out of here as much as we do.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Yes, the First Ones still think I’m Prince Peekabloo, working diligently to bring about the return of their grand empire. Kind of a boring role to play, but I’ve had worse.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Of course, I’ll keep you informed on any developments.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Yes, Queen Angella has started to investigate the First Ones, just as you’d hoped. She’s doing quite well.”

*indistinct chatter*

“Yes. Of course... Your Majesty.”

Final Note: Signal triangulation indicates the other party was located somewhere on Beast Island.

Notes:

Holy shit.

We got there.

This has been... a long, long journey. I started this with the tag "I'm going to regret this" and folks, I gotta say that I think that tag was probably inaccurate. What a fucking ride it's been. Some of you have been here for literal years! This started before the pandemic! Before season three! This has been part of my life for actual years! It is, to date, the longest thing I've ever done.

It may also be the thing I'm proudest of, because this started off with two ideas: Start with Catra losing an eye and a hand, and end with Adora saying "Kept you waiting, huh?" and we went from there. Thank you. Thank you all so, so much for reading this and following along and commenting and... I don't know what else to say apart from that. I have loved writing this, I hope you have loved reading this, and... well. Thank you. I cannot believe it's done! It hasn't sunk in yet! If you comment I will get emotional at you in the comments, probably!

This is the longest thing I've ever written, like I said before. I did something I didn't know was possible, which was write a long thing and actually keep it going and hey here we are. Took a while to get to the end, but we're here now. I will see you guys around -- feel free to check out any of the other stuff I've gotten up to, and look, maybe one day we'll see how these guys are doing. Until next time, seriously, I love you guys and thank you, thank you so fucking much for sticking with me through to the end. I hope it's a good ending!

It's not goodbye, as a fellow once said, it's see you later. So.

See you later.

Notes:

So uh, I guess I had another one of these in me after all.

This idea was heavily (and I mean like, heavily) influenced by two things: Metal Gear Solid V, and this fic. I uh, I'm not entirely sure where it'll end up going, but I have some notions. Unlike the last multi-part fic I did, I have no idea how long this one will be, and it's all hazy enough that updates will be much fewer and far between. Set your expectations accordingly, and don't forget that I warned you.

UPDATE: Turns out this ended up being pretty fucking long!
